Swearby is designed to support secure telehealth, EMR, and ePrescribing workflows for licensed healthcare providers.
The platform allows providers to manage patient intake, conduct virtual visits, document encounters, and electronically prescribe medications from a single connected environment.
This page explains how ePrescribing works inside Swearby, how Swearby supports the providers who use the platform, and the safeguards maintained to protect patient health information and other sensitive platform data.
About Swearby
Swearby is the technology platform powering virtual care for the licensed providers and healthcare organizations that use the platform.
Providers use Swearby to manage patient intake, conduct telehealth visits, document encounters, and access ePrescribing functionality without relying on separate disconnected tools.
Swearby is a technology company. Swearby does not practice medicine, employ prescribing clinicians as treating providers, or make clinical decisions on behalf of patients.
All medical care delivered through the platform is provided by independently licensed clinicians operating within the scope of their professional license and applicable state and federal law.
Our Relationship with Providers
Swearby supports independently licensed clinicians and healthcare organizations that deliver care through the platform.
Providers who prescribe through Swearby maintain their own clinical authority. They use Swearby as their telehealth, EMR, and workflow platform.
Across provider relationships:
- Providers are independently licensed and credentialed.
- Providers retain full clinical autonomy and are solely responsible for medical judgment, diagnosis, treatment, and prescribing decisions.
- Swearby does not direct, influence, or override any clinical or prescribing decision.
- Each provider has an individually authenticated Swearby account with role-based permissions appropriate to their license, role, and scope of practice.
How ePrescribing Works on Swearby
Swearby includes ePrescribing as part of the provider workflow.
Providers access ePrescribing from within the same authenticated Swearby environment they use to review patient information, conduct visits, and document encounters.
Swearby's ePrescribing functionality is powered by DoseSpot. DoseSpot provides ePrescribing technology that supports healthcare software platforms, including EMR, EHR, practice management, and telehealth systems. Through this integration, providers can access ePrescribing workflows, including legend drug prescribing and EPCS where enabled and applicable.
A typical ePrescribing workflow on Swearby:
- The provider authenticates into Swearby using secure login controls.
- The provider reviews the patient record, conducts the encounter, and documents the visit in the patient's chart.
- When a prescription is clinically appropriate, the provider opens the ePrescribing module from within the patient workflow.
- Relevant patient information, such as demographics, allergies, medication information, and pharmacy selection, is securely exchanged with DoseSpot through authenticated integration.
- The provider reviews the prescription details, pharmacy information, interaction checks, and other available prescribing information.
- The provider signs and transmits the prescription through the ePrescribing network to the patient's selected pharmacy.
- The prescription record is returned to the patient's chart, creating a medication record inside Swearby.
For controlled substance prescribing, eligible providers must complete applicable EPCS enrollment, identity proofing, credentialing, and two-factor authentication requirements before transmitting controlled substance prescriptions electronically.
Privacy, Security, and HIPAA Safeguards
Swearby is designed to support HIPAA-compliant workflows where HIPAA applies.
Swearby treats patient health information, sensitive platform data, and legally protected data with appropriate administrative, physical, and technical safeguards.

Swearby does not represent that every customer, vendor, or service provider relationship requires a Business Associate Agreement. The requirement depends on the role of the party, the nature of the relationship, and whether protected health information is created, received, maintained, or transmitted as part of the service.
